How to Legally Exit Debt Review
- Ensure All Debts Are Paid in Full:
To legally exit debt review, you need to settle all your debts listed under the debt review process. This includes accounts with credit providers and any outstanding fees related to your debt review plan. However, it excludes bonds, you may be removed from debt review even with an outstanding balance on your bond. We however suggest you make sure the bond payments are up to date. - Obtain a Clearance Certificate:
Once all debts are paid, your debt counsellor can issue a clearance certificate. This is a legal document confirming that all your obligations have been settled.- Why is this important? Without this certificate, you cannot be removed from the credit bureaus’ records as being under debt review.
- Credit Bureau Update:
After receiving your clearance certificate, your debt counsellor will notify the credit bureaus to remove the “under debt review” flag from your profile. - Legal Application (If Required):
In rare cases where disputes arise, a legal application may be necessary to finalize the process. Your debt counsellor will assist with this if needed.
